It recognizes companies that develop innovative products, respond quickly to change, are sustainable and are perceived as attractive employers - in short, companies that serve as role models as "pillars of society". Altmann Fördertechnik enters the race with the maxim "Only physics limits us - together we overcome limits!".

The Bavarian "Mittelstandspreis" is under the patronage of Ilse Aigner, President of the Bavarian State Parliament, and Hubert Aiwanger, State Minister for Economic Affairs. Since 2007, a total of 49 out of more than 450 nominated Bavarian companies have received the award. Since 2021, the prize has been awarded by the European Economic Forum e.V., the University of Applied Management (HAM) and other partners.

Formally, a company applying must have between 50 and 1,000 employees and be family- or owner-managed. And, of course, it must be based in Bavaria. The jury does not evaluate sales or business profits, but performance in the following four areas:

- Sustainability and innovation

- Robustness and resilience

- Sustainability and responsibility

- Market success, customer orientation, human resources policy and attractiveness as an employer

Prof. Dr. Peter Steinhoff from the University of Applied Management says: "The aim is to award companies that master special challenges with unconventional approaches." Above all, the aim is to recognize companies that assume social responsibility for their region and employees.

"At Altmann, we see ourselves as a company in which the employees identify to a high degree with the products created, are highly motivated in their daily interaction and share our passion for crane construction," says Robert Altmann, adding, "Our designers set standards in the industry and push the limits of what is technically feasible. The fact that we are now among the 16 finalists for the Bavarian "Mittelstandspreis" makes us very happy."

Where do we go from here?

A prize for practitioners by practitioners

The jury consists not only of representatives of the sponsors, dignitaries of the association group "Wir Eigentümerunternehmer" and the professors of HAM, but also of company representatives of the former award winners. They are particularly well placed to judge the extent to which the specified criteria are met in practice.

On the evening of June 23, the time has come. During a festive awards ceremony at the Munich Künstlerhaus, the prizes will be awarded and the winners chosen. The winners will receive a representative certificate and a personalized prize sculpture.

Achim Altmann: "We are very much looking forward to this evening, because all the finalists will also be presented at the award ceremony. A look at the competition shows: We are in good company and look forward to networking with other award-winning companies. Keep your fingers crossed for us!"
